Columbia Medical Assistant Graduate Becomes Mentor

Julanda Dickerson graduated from the Medical Assistant program at Beta Tech Columbia in January of 2003. "The program prepared me for performing many of the tasks that I do today. I was hired at the Advanced Fertility and Endocrinology Institute, LLC in April of 2003." Her many duties range from front office to administering injections, assisting with Ultrasounds, and mentoring Beta Tech Extern students.

Julanda stated, "Advanced Fertility is a great place to work. During the IVF Cycles, we are very busy but the hard work is rewarding when the patients come in for their first pregnancy test and the results are positive." The Institute is now a site for the Beta Tech Columbia MA Externship program. Julanda is one of the best mentors of the externship program in Columbia.

She brings a unique perspective to the job of mentoring students because she has learned what traits employers are truly looking for in their medical assistants. "It is also very rewarding to be a part of Beta Tech Columbia's students' successes when they progress from a student to a coworker at the institute." Currently, Advanced Fertility employs four Beta Tech Columbia graduates.
