Medical Assisting Administration TrainingThe Associate of Occupation Science degree in Medical Assisting Administration is designed to provide you with all of the relevant management, medical assisting, and technological skills to meet the demands of the current and emerging health care system. You will be prepared for employment in an important role as a member of today's health team in a doctor's office, clinic or hospital. The Medical Assisting Administration degree program prepares you for a long and rewarding career in the exciting medical field.
Students will begin this degree program by studying both theory and practical application in the fundamentals of medical diagnostic and laboratory techniques. Students are introduced to the anatomy and physiology of the body. You will engage in hands-on training in venipuncture, injections, urinalysis, measurement of vital signs, and preparation for physical and specialty exams. The program will introduce you to the procedures for the administration of medications, diseases and medications of the heart, and the importance of an electrocardiograph. You will even perform several EKGs yourself. Our highly skilled faculty bring real-world experience to the classroom providing you the training needed for insurance coding for professional services, computerized billing, and medical office management. In addition to the many medical skills you will learn, you will also be introduced to the basics of the front office procedures used in running a busy medical office. We will train you on a computer in the use of a popular software suite. You will then learn advanced computer skills in spreadsheets and email management. The program also includes management skills in supervision and team management. Success in Career Development, near the end of the program, gives you the skills that you need to find that first important job and then shows you how to advance in your career choice. This degree program has great potential and wide application in the health services field in hospital and pre-hospital (urgent care) settings, nursing homes, and other long-term care facilities as well as physician's offices. The skills that students learn translate to many of jobs available both locally and throughout the country. You could qualify for an entry-level position such as a Medical Assistant, Head EKG Technician, Medical Office Manager, Clinical Medical Manager, or Lead Laboratory Technician.
